Akamon Entertainment Ltd, the leading international online social gaming company specializing in traditional games in southern Europe and Latin America, has appointed John Millar to head its Facebook business unit and consolidate the company’s multiplatform strategy. Millar is an expert in social gaming, having worked for Gameloft and Wooga, two of the most important European companies in this field, and teaching a Video Games Creation and Development Master’s at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. In the last two years, he was Product Manager at Wooga, based in the company’s head office in Berlin, where he led the team that created Magic Land, a simulation and adventure game for Facebook with 900,000 daily users.

Millar will be responsible for Akamon’s Facebook business unit, leading the company’s strategy on the channel, which currently offers 9 Akamon games having launched the first in February 2012. In only three months, Chinchón by Akamon has become the most played version of Chinchón on Facebook, with more than 60,000 monthly unique users. Millar says: ‘the aim is to increase the number of monthly unique users so that all of Akamon’s games are the most played in their category on Facebook, and for half of all revenues to come from the social network by 2013.’ Vicenç Martí, CEO at Akamon, emphasises ‘the importance of Facebook in Akamon’s multichannel strategy, which includes our own local portals, third-party agreements offering white label games, social networks and the mobile channel, on which we plan to launch our games in the coming months’.

Akamon forecasts a turnover of around 8 million Euros for 2012, consolidating its position as market leader in social games in southern Europe and Latin America. Akamon’s portfolio consists of 30 traditional local casino-based games, such as Tute, Tarot, Roulette, Parchís, Poker and Dominoes. All the games incorporate social features and give players the opportunity to be part of a global gaming community where they are online together and share their gaming experience, whether it be via Akamon’s international portals, those of its partners or Facebook.

Currently, nine of the games are on Facebook and the company is working to introduce three new games onto the social network each month, with the goal of broadening the gaming community and so offering an even better online social experience.
